1.
What is design composition? Composition is the visual structure
and organization of elements within a design.
This means that it concerns the process of combining distinct parts or
elements to form a whole. IT involves
seeing the whole as greater than its parts.
The arrangement of
elements or parts of a design.
2.
What is the difference between positive and negative space?
Positive
space is a form or object that appears to exist to the eye. It could be a solid share, a line, or a
texture. Negative space is everything
around or within an object. It is the
empty space of a work.
3.
What do each of the following types of lines signify: soft,
zigzagged, converging, horizontal, vertical?
Soft:
imply tranquility and harmony
Zigzagged:
jarring and discordance
Converging:
implies a point disappearing in the distance and the illusion of three
dimensions in a two-dimensional space
Horizontal:
suggests horizons
Vertical:
power and strength
4.
What is Gestalt psychology?
This is
a theory that suggests that the mind perceives and organizes holistically and
finds patterns in that which appears to be unconnected.
5.
What is the difference between a symmetrical and asymmetrical
design?
An
asymmetrical design is a composition where elements are juxtaposed and do not
mirror the other forms on the page whereas a symmetrical design is a
composition where elements are balanced or mirrored on a page.
6.
When would a symmetrical design be appropriate versus an
asymmetrical one?
If one is looking to achieve a composition that gives a
calmer, more peaceful work than using a symmetrical composition would be the
better choice. If one is looking to
achieve a more dynamic element to the work than asymmetrical is the better
option.
