1.     What does it take to become a well-rounded designer, according to GDS?

            To become a well-rounded designer, one must not only rely on their ability to use specific computer programs, or get something printed that makes you a good designer, but the whole range of skills presented throughout the book.  Being a great designer visually, or conceptually, is only half the story.  It is important to learn the practical skills and technologies of design production in order to get your work produced. 
           
2.     What are a few forms of research that you can do on a regular basic?

One should read different newspapers, articles, and books.  One must challenge his or her self to read things out of the norm to broaden their knowledge and better understand others.  It is important to visit different stores, museums, galleries, and other places that you may not normally go to.  It may just be the most important to talk to people and learn about their way of life.  Keeping a journal and a sketchbook are always beneficial and help to keep track of ideas that may help out in the future.
3. What is the difference between primary and secondary research?

The difference between primary and secondary research is that in primary research one must gather materials because it they do not pre-exist whereas secondary research is the gathering of materials that does already exist. Examples of primary research include photographing, drawing, making prototypes, and interviewing people whereas examples of secondary research are design work, color samples, written texts, newspapers and magazine articles. 
4. What is contextualization? Give an example that is not given in the book.

Contextualization is the process of placing something within the interrelated systems of meaning that make up the world.  This means putting something in the place that it fits with. An example of contextualization is
5. What are four types of photography, and what are their main differences?

The four types of photography are objects and products, portraits and images of people, landscapes and buildings, and ephemera and texture.  Each type of picture is used depending upon what is trying to be conveyed from the photograph.
6. What are a few techniques you can use to strengthen an initial photograph?

1) Dramatic Diagnosis:  adding drama to the photograph by creating a tension within the standard rectilinear format.
2) Long Lines: the connection of the foreground with the background creates a visual pathway for the viewer.
3) Striking Light and Shadow: the contrast in this image creates a striking, playful shot.
4) Abstraction: High contrast in image making can be used in photography to produce abstract images.
7. What is Photoshop used for?

Photoshop is software that allows for graphic editing and manipulation.  It is used for images, photo retouching, and also text.  IT allows for the seamless integration of text and image all within the same environment.
8. How are pixels and resolution related?

Pixels are tiny squares in a grid of squares on the monitor.  Each square is lit by different intensities of red, green, or blue light to form the entire range of colors.  Resolution is the number of pixels that an image is made up of.
