Inspire

For this picture, I wanted to create a almost dream sequence like one seen in a ballet.  I combined a ballerina, a night sky, and a sunset to create this scene.

Class Work: Believe

In class, we worked on making layer masques.  I combined a city background, with a fountain, and added in the moon by using different tools and techniques.

Final Copy: 101 Dalmatians

This is the edited version of this selection.  I worked on correctly placing the shadows and also better aligned the second coloring page.

Final Copy: Forest

After last class,  I realized that some of the images were too pixilated. I removed some of the images and placed in new ones.

Selections: 101 Dalmatians

For my second selection, I thought it would be fun to create an almost ironic image.  I kept having an idea of a cartoon coloring themselves in a coloring book.  The 101 Dalmatian characters kept coming into my mind.  When I saw the image of Cruella DeVille as a coloring page, I thought it would be funny if the dalmatians were coloring her.  I then used paint cans that the dogs "spilled" all over her.  I also incorporated the Ipad into the picture to add to the absurdity of cartoon characters coloring.

Selections: Dream Forest

Just like in class, this weeks homework involved using selections.  It was fun to get to be creative.  I had a hard time deciding what to do at first, but then a few ideas came to mind.  The first one was a forest that was basically told you to follow your dreams.  My interests were definitely incorporated into this image, I selected a lot of images of places I like to shop at, places I want to go, and places I love to go to!  Making the selections was challenging at first, but once I got the hang of the tools, things got easier!

Class: Selections 101!

Last class, we learned how to work the selection tools in photoshop.  We took images and used whatever tool necessary to give us the best selection.  Patience is definitely required for this type of project because it is important that the selections are made as precise as possible.

Avatar

This is the first project of the semester!  In Photoshop, we made ourselves into avatars.  This was my first time using Photoshop for more than just fixing a picture.  It was difficult, but definitely a fun thing to do!

About Me

My Name is Jessica Kraus, but my friends call me Jess.  I am a junior here at Quinnipiac University majoring in advertising and minoring in interactive digital design.  My campus activities include Step to Perfection, ALANA and I, and Phi Sigma Sigma. My favorite color is pink!  I love fashion and shopping, and my favorite past times are writing and dancing.  I was born and raised on Long Island about a half hour out of New York City.  I live with my parents and my 16 year old brother.  We have two dogs, Hollie and Tobie.  Hollie was supposed to be a black labrador retriever, but turns out she is a mutt whereas Tobie is a 100 plus pound black labrador retriever.

This past summer and winter break I interned at New York Life.  Having the opportunity to spend so much time in the fast paced city environment assured me that I want to live and work there.
It is a dream of mine to be a writer for Seventeen or Vogue magazines.  However, I also love advertising and being creative with design, so before the dream comes true I would like to spend time in those areas of work.  After taking IDD 110, I took a liking to creating my own magazine layouts.  Not only do I want to write for Seventeen, but I'd also like to design for them.

Right now, other than school and looking for internships a lot of my time is devoted to bettering my sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma.  I currently serve as the Vice Archon which is the equivalent of the Vice President.  We devote many hours to helping the local Hamden community as well as Quinnipiac University.  My favorite community service activity we partake in is our trips to LEAP which is an after school programmed based in New Haven.  I love working with the children, helping them with their homework, and participating in sports and activities.

I am excited to get to learn new skills in this class this semester and be able to apply them to the real world.  I never thought I would be able to work with any of these programs or be able to design anything.  This whole process new to me, but I am excited about all of the opportunities the world of design has to offer.

Attached is a piece worked on in IDD 160.
